The customer wanted it gone and replaced with something that would last — a proper timber-framed apex roof with an EPDM rubber membrane, white fascias, and black gutters.

The Problem — A Tired Metal-Framed Fibre Cement Roof
The original roof was a metal-framed flat structure with fibre cement sheets — a common construction on garages of this era, but one that has a limited lifespan. Fibre cement sheets crack, lift, and allow water ingress over time. Once they start to fail, patching isn't the answer. The only proper solution is a full replacement.
Stage 1 — Strip Out & New Timber Frame
We stripped the old metal frame and fibre cement sheets completely, taking the garage back to bare walls. Then we built a new timber-framed apex roof from scratch — ridge beam, rafters, and deck — giving the garage a proper pitched roofline for the first time.
Stage 2 — EPDM Rubber Membrane
With the timber deck in place, we laid the EPDM rubber membrane. EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is the gold standard for flat and low-pitch roofing — a single-ply rubber membrane that's fully bonded to the deck, completely seamless, and rated for a 50-year lifespan. No joints, no seams, no weak points. It handles UV, frost, and standing water without degrading.
Stage 3 — White Fascias & Black Gutters
Once the membrane was down and trimmed, we fitted white uPVC fascias around the full perimeter and hung black uPVC guttering and downpipes. The contrast between the black EPDM membrane, white fascias, and black gutters gives the garage a clean, contemporary finish that sits well against the pebbledash walls.
