The Foundation
Every cabin we install goes on a proper base. No timber bearers on bare earth, no paving slabs, no shortcuts. This one was built on a poured concrete foundation — excavated, formed, and left to cure fully before a single log was laid. That's the only way to guarantee the building stays level, dry, and structurally sound for decades.
The EPDM Rubber Roof
The flat roof section of this cabin was upgraded with a fully bonded EPDM rubber membrane — the same material used on commercial flat roofs and modern garden rooms. Unlike felt, EPDM doesn't crack, blister, or degrade in UV. It's a single-piece membrane with no joins, no seams, and a lifespan measured in decades rather than years.
If you're having a cabin installed and the roof is flat or low-pitch, EPDM is the upgrade we always recommend. The cost difference is minor. The difference in longevity is significant.
The Interior
Inside, the cabin is finished with the natural Nordic timber that Dunster House are known for — clean, light, and warm. The vaulted ceiling with its central ridge beam gives the space a feeling of height and openness that you don't expect from the outside. Electrics are run throughout, with double sockets on multiple walls and a ceiling light fitting — ready to use as a garden office, hobby room, or retreat from day one.
The Detail
The corner design means the building wraps around the garden boundary, making use of space that would otherwise be wasted. The side window brings in additional natural light without compromising privacy, and the French doors open the full width of the front elevation.
